Repair - Remodeling - Construction Process
What to Expect
Whether you are repairing a door or thinking about creating space for an elderly loved one, you want to know what to expect from your contractor. What hours will they be at work in your home? Are they focused on protecting the rest of your home during the project? These are important considerations before beginning your project.
With The Neighborhood GuyTM, you will have someone who literally, “lives the home.” Now that may not be an expression you’re familiar with but it’s what makes The Neighborhood GuyTM and Milford Construction different from everyone else.
We know that any repair, and especially
remodeling and construction, will change your home and how you live in it. With our many years of experience, our consultants and craftsmen recognize how these changes will impact your day-to-day living environment. “Living the house” means our goal is to think of every aspect of your project so when it’s complete you feel “at home in your home”.
The Process
The Neighborhood GuyTM process is so well thought out, that you’ll know exactly what to expect from the first step to the last step on your project. This is how we work with you our client - and any deviation from the process will be communicated to you.
Free Initial Inspection and Estimate
When you request your free estimate from The Neighborhood GuyTM, Michael Milford or one of his trusted consultants will personally come to your home and inspect the work you want done. They will take photos during the inspection so you will receive an accurate estimate and description of the work to be done. It also helps with matching or recreating difficult or specialty molding treatments, siding and brick.
Understanding Your Requirements
At the time of the inspection, your consultant will review every detail of your project, answer any questions and give potential alternatives for you to consider, so that we complete your project within your time frame and budget. It is our goal to help you achieve the best result for the best price. Michael then reviews every aspect of your project and presents you with a firm price.
We Price by the Job, Not by the Hour
You will receive a price for the work you want done normally within a few days. We are unique because we don’t charge by the hour - we charge by the job. So whether you have one task or an entire “wish list” to complete, we price each handyman or home improvement task individually so you can see the cost and budget accordingly. We will even help you prioritize your list based on your schedule and budgetary concerns.
Work Schedule
We do our very best to work around your schedule. Generally the work is performed by our craftsmen between the hours of 8:30 am and 4:00 pm. The time frame and pricing are discussed with you in advance when your handyman consultant comes to give you a bid for the work you want done.
Time Frame
We call and confirm your appointment before coming to your home to do any work. We make every effort to complete all handyman work within one day, depending upon the length of your list. If anything is left undone by day’s end, our craftsmen will return first thing the following morning to complete the job.
For home remodeling or improvement we will give you an estimated length of time the project will take. We deliver high quality home improvement work that meets your needs in a timely and professional manner. We can even schedule work based on your days off or vacation time.
Job Supervision and Completion
Michael Milford or your consultant will be on the jobsite making sure all projects are going according to plan. They are always available to discuss issues, any additional work you may want done, as well as take care of any special situations that may arise. Finally, the work is inspected for completion by Michael, and only then, are you presented with an invoice.
Understanding the Emotional Side of a Project
During any project there is going to be some disruption of your household routine. There is a period of time where you may feel your house is no longer your own. Craftsmen are in and out taking care of their responsibilities on the project and individual and family routines can be interrupted.
The best defense to this disruption is having your contractor explain what this interruption will look like on a daily basis and some of the things you can do as an individual or family to make this transition period easier. We don’t want to create a beautiful new room or covered patio only to have you or your family headed to counseling because you decided to renovate your home!
We will make sure that everyone’s expectations are on the same page about the time needed for the project, the money to be spent and what the final result of the project is to look like. It will save on frayed nerves and keep your household running as smoothly as possible!
